NIC5-15
The Development of NIC5-15 in the Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease
| Status: | Active and Recruiting |
| Eligible Population(s): | Alzheimer's Disease |
| GCO Number: | 05-0173 IRB approved through 06/30/2009 |
| Principal Investigator: | Hillel Grossman, MD |
| Study Coordinator: | George Marzloff |
We are seeking patients with Alzheimer's disease to participate in a research study on a dietary supplement that may help improve memory. Some study participants will receive the supplement and some will receive a placebo (sugar pill). This supplement has anti-diabetic effects in people and has been shown to improve memory in laboratory animals. It also reduces the production of amyloid, a major ingredient in Alzheimer's plaques, in test-tube conditions.
The purpose of the study is to determine whether this product is safe and effective in treating Alzheimer's disease. This natural product (called NIC5-15) is a dietary supplement found in many foods, including soybeans. Participation in the study will last seven weeks, and includes memory testing, neurological exams and blood tests.
